Working America Education Fund

The Working America Education Fund educates the public about issues of importance to working families, including good jobs, health care, retirement security, education and the impact of the global economy on working families. Our goal is to provide a two-way communications link for working people to articulate their economic priorities and access reliable information on those issues. Together with our partner organization, Working America, community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, we reach out to working families through door-to-door canvassing, the Internet and other programs.

The Fund supports:

  • Grassroots community education to defend living standards and opportunities for all working families. It develops and distributes education materials on issues affecting working families, including good jobs, health care, retirement security, overtime pay, job exporting, balancing work and family, as well as provides information on workplace rights. It also develops education materials on state-specific issues such as education, family and medical leave and outsourcing state-funded jobs.

  • Online education on workers’ issues through such features as Job Tracker, which provides company records on exported jobs, health and safety, as well as workers’ rights. Job Tracker includes data from more than 200,000 U.S> employers and is the most comprehensive source of information linking data on employer behavior in the country. The Ask A Lawyer feature has educated workers about overtime eligibility regulations, which were revised in August 2004. In 2006, we will expand Ask A Lawyer to cover all employment-related issues. We also will develop a comprehensive workplace rights feature on our website.

  • Strategic research for institutions, organizers and activists to promote good jobs, fair trade and a healthy and just economy.

The Working America Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) educational organization.
